Para ello se recurrió al método histórico, desde la perspectiva de la vida cotidiana y el cuerpo, como objeto histórico, con base en 44 testamentos que reposan en el Archivo Nacional de Historia de Cuenca- Ecuador, y al análisis de contenido de textos literarios costumbristas, que completaron las representaciones sobre la enfermedad en la decimonónica sociedad cuencana.
